The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII)

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), is an autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India. It is situated in the premises of the erstwhile Prabhat Film Company in Pune, India. Since its inception in 1960, FTII has become India's premier film and television institute, with its alumni becoming known actors in the Indian film industry.

FTII is a member of CILCET (International Liaison Centre of Schools of Cinema and Television), an organization of the world's leading schools of film and television.

The Institute offers three-year diploma courses in direction, editing, cinematography and audiography; two-year courses in acting, art direction and animation; a one-year course in feature film scriptwriting. One-year courses in direction, electronic cinematography, video editing and audiography are also part of the courses.

 

University Buildings

The University of Pune (formerly the University of Poona), located in northwestern Pune, is one of India's premier universites. It was established on February 10, 1949. Spread over a comprehensive 400 acre (1.6 km²) campus, the university is home to 46 academic departments.

The University of Pune was established under the Poona University Act, passed by the Bombay legislature on February 10, 1948. In the same year, Dr. M.R. Jayakar assumed office as the first vice chancellor of the university. Shri B.G. Kher, Chief Minister and Education Minister of the government of Bombay, helped ensure the university received a large allocation of land for their campus. In early 1950, the university was allocated over 411 acres (1.7 km²). It is also known as the 'Oxford Of The East'.

 
Yoga Institute

The ‘Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute’ directed by Mr B K S Iyengar is an internationally reputed Yoga institution. Courses for short and long durations are conducted here, depending on individual requirements and the availability of time.

 
National Defense Academy

The National Defence Academy is located on the dam's southern and western sides, and has the whole western shore for boating and sailing-related training. There is also a DRDO establishment to the south-eastern corner of the lake which runs technical training courses for defence personnel. It has a Gole Market. There are a lot of attractions called the Rakesh Sharma Block, Manoj Pandey Block And equitation line. It is also known as Choupati.It has schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kendriya Vidyalya NDA and St. Joseph's School. There is a hospital also named Military Hospital.About 12% of area of Khadakwasla is hilly.The NDA's pride,honour is mindblowing.

 
Sinhagad

Sinhagad or Sinhgad (Devanagari, Marathi: सिंहगड) meaning Lion Fort, is located near the city of Pune, India, situated on a hill rising 800 metres above the surrounding countryside. The base of the fort is approximately 550 meter (1800 ft) above sea level, and its top is 1,350 m (4,430 ft) above sea level.

Previously called Kondana (Devanagari: कोंढाणा), the fort's location has been strategically important since at least the 14th century and has been the site of many important battles.

 
Karla Caves

Karla Caves, an example of Indian rock-cut architecture, is a complex of cave shrines built by Buddhist monks around 3rd to 2nd century B.C. It is located in Karli near Lonavala, a hill station, in the western state of Maharashtra between the cities of Mumbai and Pune in India. It is on a major trade route that runs from the Arabian Sea eastward, into the Deccan. Karli's location in Maharashtra places it in a region that is the division between North India and South India. Buddhism, having become identified with commerce and manufacturing through their early association with traders, tended to locate their monastic establishes in natural areas close to major trade routes so as to provide lodging houses for travelling traders.

 
Lohagad and Visapur

Lohagad ("the Iron fort") is one of the many hill forts of Chatrapati Shivaji. It is situated 52 km from Pune in western India. Lohagad is at an elevation of 3,450 feet (1,052 m).

It divides the basins of the Indrayani and Pavna and is situated on a side range of the Sahyadris. Another fort called Visapur is located on its eastern side. The four large gates of Lohagad are still in good condition and reasonably intact. Historical records show that in the later Peshwa period, Nana Phadnavis (1742-1800 AD) built several structures in the fort such as a big tank and a step-well (bawali).

 
Shivneri

Shivneri Fort is a historic military fortification located near Junnar which is around 105 km from Pune, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is known as the birthplace of Shivaji also known as Shivaji Maharaj, who would go on not only to rule Maharashtra but to found the Maratha Empire.

Shahaji Bhonsale, Shivaji's father, was a general in the army of the Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur. He was concerned for the safety of his wife Jijabai during her pregnancy as there was constant warfare going on.He,therefore moved his family to Shivneri fort. Shivneri is a highly defensible location, with steep rocks on four sides and a strongly-built citadel.

Shivaji was born at the fort on 19 February 1630, and spent his childhood there. Inside the fort is a small temple of goddess Shivai Devi, after whom Shivaji was named so.He acquired all the skills and training on this fort which he used while establishing hindavi swaraj (self-rule). He learnt the early lessons of swaraj on this fort. There are statues of Jijabai and young Shivaji. In the fort there are two water springs, namely Ganga-Jamumna, which have water throughout whole year.

 
Jejuri

Jejuri (Marathi : जेजुरी ) is a city and a municipal council in Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is famous for the main temple of god Khandoba.

As of 2001 India census, Jejuri had a population of 12,000. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Jejuri has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 67%. In Jejuri, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
